Joshua Radin: "I learned a lot from Costello and McCartney after playing with them"

Q: You studied drawing and painting at Northwestern University. However, I did you end up plumping for the world of music. Are you still attracted to other graphic expressions? Are you still working on paintings or some other type of artwork?A: I still think that a guitar, a paintbrush or a typewriter are only tools I use to express what goes through my head. Q: Your song 'I'd Rather Be With You' reached number two in the list of the UK. Do you think this kind of achievement are less important now than before?A: I try not to look very seriously the numbers. It is difficult, but I feel happier when this world is not about competition, but that is about the expression of an idea to other people.
Q: Some argue that "Simple Times" is your best album, but what about "Underwater"? Will there be a new brand in your music career?A. I do not know, really. The fact that a band more than another means nothing as to whether to or not, or is more or less good. I think every one of my albums tells the story of where I was (or am) at a specific time. I think "Underwater" is different and special, so all I can hope for is that people find the magic in it.
Q: So can you tell us what is the difference between "The Rock and The Tide" and the latter?A: This album is more acoustic. Very melodic. And it is quite luxurious throughout the game guitar arrangements.
Q. And, what should that name?A: My doctors never allowed me to be under water since I have 5 years because I had a ruptured eardrum. It's a metaphor. This year my eardrum is healed, so I could swim underwater for the first time in years and the silence I heard inspired me to create a new album.
